Climate Change Educational Resource
The Hammersmith and Fulham Urban Studies Centre have produced a new educational resource about climate change and sustainability.
It aims to increase young people's knowledge of these important topics through three key questions:
- What is climate change, and how is it caused?
- What will the effects of climate change be?
- How can we act to stop climate change?
Local examples and the work of local groups are highlighted throughout the resource, and children are encouraged to become actively involved in reducing their environmental impact.
This project was funded by the City Bridge Trust. Design by digital:works.
Remembering Slavery Resource Pack and INSET
To celebrate the bi-centenary of the 1807 Abolition of Slavery Act we have produced a resource pack for use in schools at Key Stages 2 and 3.
The resource contains teaching materials, animated film, activities, background information and cross-curricular guidelines linking local people and events to the global issues of slavery, the slave trade and its abolition.
It will enable students to understand and link local people and places to Britain's involvement in the triangular slave trade, the bicentenary of Britain's abolition of the slave trade, Commonwealth and immigration and the contribution of the black community to Hammersmith and Fulham's development and heritage.
We thank Heritage Lottery Fund for funding this project.
Heritage Trails
These resources and eight Heritage Trails can be used by teachers in Key Stage 1, 2 and 3 to support and enrich the development of their history curriculum. The materials also have relevance for literacy, numeracy, geography, citizenship, art and design, R.E., design and technology and ICT.
They cover the full length of Hammersmith & Fulham borough.
Smarter Borough Packs
They aim to promote active citizenship, encouraging children to be involved in both evaluating the environmental quality of their local area and contributing to its improvement.
The resource for Key Stage 2 teachers meets the National Curriculum requirements for Geography Unit 8. It also offers links to Citizenship, PSHE, History, Literacy, Numeracy, ICT and Environmental Education.
The resource for Key Stage 3 teachers meets the National Curriculum requirements for Citizenship, Units 7 and 21. It also offers links to Geography, PSHE, History, English, Mathematics and ICT.
In addition to a series of materials and activities for local environmental research, the resource identifies a range of people who are engaged in initiatives to improve local environments. These learning materials will enable children to understand and value what the local Council are trying to achieve through their Smarter Borough initiative.

Sands End Revisited
Langford Primary school became 'History Detectives' where they were taken back in time to discover the stories of Sands End and the changes that have taken place over the years. The stories presented in this brochure are a mixture of fact, personal experience, and maybe a little bit of urban myth thrown in to really get you thinking!
